Theatre at St. Michael’s continues its advanced Shakespeare workshop for experienced actors. Under the direction of camp director Christina Johnston, a limited number of teens will undertake intensive study and production of one of Shakespeare’s most classic and important works. With all its iconic characters, scenes & speeches, balancing deep introspection with high drama and infusing poetic beauty into phenomenal tragedy, Hamlet promises to be daring, challenging, and a complete blast! The small number of actors in this program ensures a high level of personal interaction with our camp staff. Participants will be involved in all aspects of rehearsal and production, including training in the craft of acting, character development, text analysis, stage combat, choreography, and special effects.
Teen Apprentice Actors
In addition to our regular Teen campers, this summer we are introducing a new “Apprentice Actor” program to the Teen Shakespeare Intensive, for those who are interested in joining the Teen cast in a more limited role. A select number of 11 & 12 year olds may join the production, and will be cast as the minor characters who have a handful of appearances. These actors will get their scripts and roles during week one, but only need attend camp for the second week of rehearsals and performances. Apprentice Actors will have the opportunity to be fully a part of the production and collaborate with their older castmates, without the burden of extensive lines or responsibility of carrying a major role. It is an ideal opportunity for younger actors looking to move up into the Teen cast in the near future!
