PreKindergarten – “A Day in the Life”

Children arrive between 7:45 and 8:30.  As they arrive, they put things away in their cubbies, then come in and “sign in” and answer the Question of the Day (used to initiate conversation, discussion, counting and comparing).  Sign in changes throughout the year.  It might be name recognition at the beginning of the year, first and last names, or recognizing phone numbers.

Children then choose a center on the Choice Board.  The board helps manage numbers of children at each area.  Areas include games, blocks, light table, dramatic play, sensory table, writing center, art area, books, and more.

After Choice time the children clean up and gather on the rug for Meeting.  We start Meeting with “STAR” breathing…Smile, Take a deep breath, And Relax.  Then we go over jobs, the daily schedule, the calendar, weather, the sign language sign for the day, and discuss the Question of the Day results.

Jeff Gerring We came to St. Michael’s for two reasons - the incredible arts programs that the school has, and for Phil Tutino.  Too many schools are cutting back on their arts programs, but St. Michael’s understands the value of balancing rigorous academic study with a foundation in the arts.
