Seventh graders move up – literally! Moving to the second floor of the middle school students now enjoy a greater level of independence with their lockers moving from outside of their advisor’s classroom to a central gathering area. Greeting friends, gathering materials for the day, and checking in with their advisor begins a busy day for our seventh grade.

Music class starts the day with an exploration of The Phantom of the Opera. Students in theater class just gained some valuable insight to use in their set design.

English class is immersed in their NaNoMo novel writing project. Students can hardly wait to finish and publish their own novel and share them during their authors’ evening.

A special birthday celebration and a rousing game of soccer provides a needed break mid-morning.

Mindfulness, self-regulation, and stress management are key focuses of health and wellness class. Student journals reflect their increasing self-awareness and their power to make choices about how they respond in any given situation.

A photographic triptych self-portrait provides a unique window into each student’s creative view and perspective of themselves. Just one of the many ways art class encourages and celebrates self-expression.

Office hours provides time to pursue personal interests and leadership opportunities with dedicated time for student council, sustainability and debate club.

Recess singers entertain students during lunch with a rendition of their latest concert repetoire. No better way to spend lunch period!

Pre-Algebra and Geometry is a focus during math class. Learning to take notes, solve equations efficiently, and illustrate their thinking are key building blocks setting students up for success in Algebra1 next year.

“Buenos Dias, Senora! ¿Cómo va tu día? Es tan bueno verte.” Students spend the majority of world language class conversing in the target language. Oral proficiency, cultural appreciation, and written expression continue to develop as students take on the second year of their chosen language.

Advisor classrooms are lively as students check Google classroom to prepare to depart for the day. A few last-minute announcements, a reminder to charge their laptops fully, and it’s off for the day!

Jeff Gerring We came to St. Michael’s for two reasons - the incredible arts programs that the school has, and for Phil Tutino.  Too many schools are cutting back on their arts programs, but St. Michael’s understands the value of balancing rigorous academic study with a foundation in the arts.
