While strong academics are and should be a priority at St. Michael’s, we also offer programs that provide students with opportunities to broaden and deepen their sense of self and the world in which they live.

Community service, experiential learning, character development, and leadership programs teach children the skills and strategies to be successful beyond the classroom. Every student has the potential to be a leader, and at St. Michael’s Country Day School, we intentionally teach these leadership skills so every child is equipped to advocate, collaborate, and communicate effectively. We provide leadership opportunities throughout every student’s experience so they feel inspired and empowered to make a difference in their community and beyond.

One aspect of our leadership program is the high school placement process. Whether or not our 8th graders are going to public or independent schools, they all get experience in the following:

  • Practice/Mock Interviews
  • Public Speaking
  • Interpersonal Communication Skills
  • Essay Writing
  • Resume Development

Beginning in the spring of their 7th grade year, students and their parents are guided through a process that includes exploring high school options, meeting important deadlines, and tips for effective communication.

For more information on this process, please contact Colleen Welsh, Middle School Head at cwelsh@smcds.org or call 401-849-5970.
