Sports and physical activity are an integral part of growing up. The St. Michael’s athletics program stresses the development of each child’s physical coordination, and works to instill in a healthy sense of teamwork, sportsmanship, and fair play.

Weather permitting, all students have outdoor play time two times per day using the playground structures designed to facilitate and enhance physical and social development.

Early Childhood

Students  work with a physical education specialist weekly. Skills include over and underhand catching and throwing, locomotor skills, understanding personal space and basic gymnastic skills.

Grades 1-4

Twice a week, students visit the gym or fields for physical education class. Educational game skills include teamwork, and collaboration, problem solving. Ball skills, such as throwing, kicking, passing and catching help lay the groundwork for team sports.

Upon entering Grade 2, children begin learning team sports, including soccer, badminton, baseball and softball.  Grades 3 and 4 are introduced to education gymnastics and personal fitness, with a focus on cardio-vascular endurance, muscular strength, and flexibility.
