During my daughter’s 2nd grade year, the idea of a Buddy Bench was brought up by a classmate. After presenting the idea to the Lower School head, the idea was fully embraced. Instead of just providing a Buddy Bench, my daughter and a few students helped build and decorate the bench, I loved that the idea of a Buddy Bench was embraced so quickly but more importantly that the students played an integral part in creating the bench. They were also asked to present the bench at a Lower School meeting. This type of hands-on learning driven by the students is one reason why we love SMS!
