Theatre at St. Michael’s is pleased to present William Shakespeare’s rollicking comedy, The Merry Wives of Windsor, on Friday August 9th and Saturday August 10th at 7:00.
The Merry Wives of Windsor is a fun-filled romp with plenty of pranks, disguises, deceptions, and even some true love. Sir John Falstaff vastly underestimates the Merry Wives in the town of Windsor as he hatches a frothy scheme to drain their bank accounts and drive their husbands insane with jealousy. Antics ensue as Falstaff (a favorite character of Queen Elizabeth herself!) overestimates his own ability to dupe good people and pull off his scheme of deceit. With The Merry Wives of Windsor, Shakespeare proves that the best human foibles are the ones we can laugh at – so be prepared to laugh out loud!
This performance will feature actors ages 9 – 14, who have been intensively studying the play in a two-week program under the direction of TASM Camp Director Christina Johnston. Assistant direction is by Chelsea Boergesson and choreography is by Nicole Spear. Merrick Carroll leads a crew of young technicians (also ages 9 – 14) to design and build the show.
The performance is free and open to the public, in the St. Michael’s School Hill House Arts and Athletic Center at 180 Rhode Island Ave in Newport. Donations are welcome at the door.
