TASM Auditions are online!

Hi there TASM actors –

It’s audition time! In order to get everything up and running as efficiently as possible this summer, we’re going to be holding auditions via video submission this year. Attached to this email, you will find your audition materials to choose from. Take a look through everything, choose options that you find interesting, and go for it! Remember that auditions are an opportunity to try out a part, show us your interpretation of the character, and have some fun – so enjoy!!!

For Alice in Wonderland, there is a selection of monologues, plus some options for songs. Please choose 2 of the monologues and 1 of the songs. For the song, you are welcome to perform it along with the rehearsal track, or a cappella (without any background music), as you prefer. Just make sure we can hear you!

For Julius Caesar, please choose 3 different scenes / monologues. If you choose a scene, you can have someone else read the other lines for you, or in some cases, you could do a long line or two from within the scene as a monologue. If you have someone read with you, that person can be either off or on camera – it doesn’t matter, since they’re not the one we’re watching! If you are able to get together with another actor who is also auditioning, that would be great too – you can record a scene together. For more info about the show, you can check out the attached synopsis, and I’d also recommend the No Fear Shakespeare Translation online HERE.

For Twelfth Night, please choose 3 different scenes / monologues. If you choose a scene, you can have someone else read the other lines for you. That person can be either off or on camera – it doesn’t matter, since they’re not the one we’re watching! If you are able to get together with another actor who is also auditioning, that would be great too – you can record a scene together. For more info about the show, you can check out the attached synopsis, and I’d also recommend the No Fear Shakespeare Translation online HERE.

AUDITIONS

  • Choose only 3 pieces to submit for your audition.
  • Please choose different roles for your 3 pieces.
  • Videotape yourself doing a “slate” – a greeting video that includes your name plus something interesting about yourself that we might not already know. (No more than 30 seconds for this part.)
  • Make a video of you performing each piece – you can do them all in a row in the same video, or in 3 separate videos, whichever is easier for you. Remember to check the video to be sure we can hear you – we will be streaming the shows this year, and it is important that you get used to what it takes to be picked up by a microphone while on camera.  If you do a scene with someone else that both of you want to use as your audition, please have each person submit the video in their own email so we can keep track of each actor’s materials.
  • Send it in an email with this SUBJECT LINE Audition: Actor’s Name and Show
  • Please include the following in the body of the email

Piece #1 – scene name

Scene partners (if applicable)

Piece #2 – scene name

Scene partners (if applicable)

Piece #3 – scene name/song name

Scene partners (if applicable)

  • Email or share those videos with me at cjohnston@smcds.org. If a video won’t send it is probably too long, feel free to use Google drive or cut the video into pieces and/or send in individual emails. I will email you back confirming that I have received your video submission(s).
  • If you do not receive my confirmation email within 24 hours of sending the videos, please resend.
  • You must also fill out this AUDITION CAMPER INFO FORM.
  • Try new things, use this as an opportunity to have fun and show us how you play, because ultimately this is a play! 🙂
  • And break a leg!

We need all the audition information back by Friday, July 10, please. That way we can watch everyone’s work and figure out the cast lists by the first day of camp!

SHIRTS

In addition, we will be having the option to buy TASM shirts this summer – they’ll be light blue with white ink, and have one front that combines all 3 shows. If you want to order one (or more), they need to be pre-ordered through this SHIRT ORDER FORM by July 13.

LUNCHES

You also have the option to take part in the à la carte lunches provided to TASM by Aquidneck Pizza. Everything will be individually served up and bagged for each camper who orders it, including mains, sides & sauces. Here is a link to the LUNCH ORDER FORM, which includes the menu and options. Like the shirts, all food needs to be pre-ordered this summer, so if you’d like to join the lunch program, please get your order in by July 13.

If you have any questions at all – please email me!

Thank you so much! We can’t wait to see you in a few weeks and get going on your fantastic show!

All my best,

Christy

P.S. Next week, I’ll send out one more email with info about the morning drop-off procedures and other logistical stuff, as well as a reminder to anyone who still needs to get me any info! 🙂
