5th Grade Archaeology Project

September 21st, 2009 by bholland

Today, we are going to add digital artifacts to our timeline.

To get started, we are going on a field trip to the British museum of history.

In your groups, pick a theme, and then add 5 times to your timeline. Make sure that you have the name and date. From there, go find a picture to add to it as well. What can  you tell us when you are done?

8th Grade Media Resources

September 16th, 2009 by bholland

For your book trailers, all images must be Creative Commons Licensed and credited.

Creative Commons (CC) is a non-profit organization devoted to expanding the range of creativeworks available for others to build upon legally and to share.[1] The organization has released several copyright-licenses known as Creative Commons licenses. These licenses allow creators to communicate which rights they reserve, and which rights they waive for the benefit of recipients or other creators. – source: Wikipedia

To find CC licensed images, video, and music, start by using these sites and looking for the correct license next to each media example.
You may NOT use another search engine until you have used these first. We will discuss it more later.

8th Grade Book Trailer Project

September 9th, 2009 by bholland

Here are a few sample book trailers that Mrs. Edwards and I found. They may help you as you think through your project.

This first one, for RULES, was done by a teacher as an example for middle school and high school students.

This one, for Call of the Wild, was created by a student.

You are capable of something in between (but closer to RULES). Here’s how this is going to work.

  1. Ms. Edwards is going to put you in groups. Your first job is to use the same graphic organizer as for the movie trailer to identify the components of your book that you will then use in your book trailer.
  2. We will take that graphic organizer and storyboard your book trailer so that you have an outline of what you are going to produce.
  3. Once you know what you are looking for, we will take time to find music, images, and video clips to produce your trailer. All media must be Creative Commons Licensed for reproduction. (We’ll talk about this later.)
  4. The entire thing will ultimately be put together in iMovie and then loaded onto our Vimeo site.
