Lead Preschool Teacher

St. Michael’s Country Day School, an independent school in Newport , RI serving students in preschool through grade eight has opened a search for a preschool teacher. Candidates must have an excellent understanding of the developmental needs of 2 to 4 year olds and demonstrate a passion for working with this age group. Candidates should have minimum three years experience and a master’s degree is preferred. 

The person hired for this position will be expected to:

*plan and implement activities that nurture and develop the physical, emotional, intellectual and social skills of young children 

*demonstrate the ability to observe children to assess their developmental level, interests and needs and use this information to facilitate learning and growth

*exhibit kindness, respect and compassion in all interactions with children, parents and colleagues

*communicate knowledgeably and effectively with parents and colleagues about students and curriculum

Third Grade Teacher

Candidates must have a passion for teaching nine and ten year olds and an understanding of the social, emotional, and intellectual development of this age group. Ability to work collaboratively with a team teacher to design and implement curriculum, differentiate instruction to meet the needs of a wide range of students, and communicate effectively with parents and colleagues is expected. Knowledge of Singapore math and Responsive Classroom practices, and Writer’s Workshop is desirable. Candidates should have minimum three years experience and a master’s degree is preferred. We value and support reflective teaching practices, on-going professional development and teachers who see themselves as lifelong learners. Middle School Science Teacher

The ideal candidate is one who puts an emphasis on project-based learning through a collaborative, inquiry-based approach, where open-ended experimentation and design play a significant role in the science classroom. Content expertise, knowledge in differentiated instruction and assessment, willingness and ability to collaborate and implement innovative pedagogical initiatives, including technology, that focus on a student-first, hands-on, experiential learning is desired. Strong interpersonal, organizational, and management skills are essential to the role, as is a willingness to participate fully in the community beyond the classroom.

Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree and three years teaching experience preferred.

Substitute Teachers (All Grades)

Lead Counselors/Summer Camp (7 weeks beginning June 24)

Extended Day Staff

We are seeking staff members for our Extended Day Program which runs from 3:00-5:30pm each school day. Staff members have some flexibility as to the days and hours that they work. Candidates should have a college degree and experience working with children in at least one of these age groups; preschool through kindergarten, grades 1-4, or grades 5-8.
